Raku ware undergoes a very unique firing process and was introduced to Britain by Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada. Its popularity is due to American potters who pioneered the gas firing and post firing reduction techniques that are enjoyed today. Shaun’s inspiration is taken form ordinary domestic vessel forms; however, instead of being a practical piece of pottery, they exude sculptural qualities. Each piece is slab built in earth stone clay and the bisque fired pots are glazed using reactive copper matt slip which gives and iridescent range of colours.
