Julien has a BA (Hons) Fine Art, an MA (Hons) Computer Animation from the NCCA and has exhibited work across the UK, France and New Zealand. He has also worked on public art commissions in public and commercial spaces.

The work is very much inspired by scientific imaging such as underwater scans, sound waves and seismic records. Each painting is an exploration of line, colour and volume. The process involves superimposing lines of paint to produce an intricately woven 3d surface. New spaces are created within the surface of the canvas, expanding the capacities of the medium to sculptural terms. The process of creating the painting, layer by intertwined layer, is both the form and content of the work. Through their construction process, the paintings reveal themselves.
