HMS Queen Elizabeth at the Time of the Dardanelles

HMS Queen Elizabeth at the Time of the Dardanelles

Limited edition print from an original etching. Edition size: 49

260 x 200 mm

Unusual in that it’s a trial proof, QUEEN ELIZABETH is seen here in action early in her life. She had been rushed from commissioning 3 days before Christmas in 1914, out to the Dardanelles; and then on her return had just entered Rosyth Dockyard for maintenance thus missing her sisters who had sailed for Jutland with the 5th Battle Squadron. It is therefore likely that Wyllie is here portraying her stint at the Dardanelles. This etching is the property of the Wardroom Mess, HMS SULTAN.
