New Peter Hill and Carolyn Ross works

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

Peter Hill only recently returned to the UK after more than a decade spent living and working as a professional artist in Ireland. He was a successful art tutor and teacher but decided to return to the UK where he believes there are more opportunities for people working in the visual arts. As a result of this move, Peter has found the freedom to concentrate on his own artwork and explore himself as an artist without the restrictions of teaching others. His style has evolved and developed over the years and he is currently working on a series of seascapes, many of which can be seen on the website.

Carolyn Ross has been a friend of the gallery for many years. Her luscious, energetic, and colourful canvasses usually depict coastal towns and the vessels that sail from them. She has recently completed a stunning Spinnaker Tower which can now be seen in the gallery.

Back by popular demand with a large collection of sumptuous new works, Peter Heard - the UK’s finest and most prolific painter of lighthouses - returns to Artists Harbour Gallery in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard with the new exhibition: Lights on the Land. It’s a collection of new work featuring his trademark lighthouses and vivid landscapes. Most of the works are small and intimate, and priced extremely attractively for an international “name” artist.

Peter, a chartered civil engineer by profession whose celebrity clients include Jackie Collins and legendary Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, started painting in the early 1970s and became a leader of the British naive-modern school with Beryl Cook and Martin Leman at London’s Portal Gallery. He is well known in the USA and has a large following for his pictures of boats, women, landscapes, buildings, cars and animals, as well as lighthouses.
